Wichita brings in rookie Sparrow

Wichita brings in rookie Sparrow

Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors, announced the signing of rookie forward Colton Sparrow for the 2018-19 season.

Sparrow turns pro after spending the last four years playing at the collegiate level. The 25-year-old-pound forward began his career at the University of Alaska in 2014-15 before transferring to the University of Regina. He registered 15 points (6g-9a) in 57 games for the Nanooks and 22 points (8g-14a) in 52 games for the Cougars.

Prior to turning pro, the Kelowna, British Columbia native played a four-year career for the British Columbia Hockey League's Vernon Vipers. He helped the Vipers claim the RBC Title and won the Doyle Cup in 2010-11. He was named as the RBC Cup Top Forward and Top Scorer in 2013-14, registering seven points (5g, 2a) in five games. Overall, he piled up 87 points (32g, 55a) in 188 games for the Vipers.
