Growlers sign goaltender Garteig

St. John’s, Newfoundland – The Newfoundland Growlers have signed goaltender Michael Garteig contract for the 2018-19 season.

The Growlers are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs and the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies.

Garteig, 26 dressed in 24 games with the Kalamazoo Wings of the last season, posting a record of 12-10-1 along with an .887 save percentage and a 3.81 goals against average.

The native of Prince George, British Columbia split the 2016-17 season with the Alaska Aces and the AHL's Utica Comets. In 22 games with the Aces, he went 11-6-2 with a 3.11 goals-against average and a save percentage of .906 while he saw action in eight contests with Utica compiling a 3.01 goals-against average and an .897 save percentage.

In 2015-16, he completed his senior season with Quinnipiac University, leading the Bobcats to the ECAC championship and a berth in the NCAA National Championship Game. In 43 games as a senior, Garteig posted a record of 32-4-7, along with a career-best .924 save percentage and a 1.91 goals against average.
