INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Veteran forward Joey Sides has signed on to join the Kansas City Mavericks for the 2018-19 season.

The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames and the American Hockey League's Stockton Heat.

Sides is set to play in his sixth season in the ECHL. He skated last year with the Tulsa Oilers, claiming his second-best scoring season in the league with 37 points (12g-25a) and posting a career-high 84 penalty minutes while serving as an alternate captain.

The 32-year-old returned to the ECHL last season after playing for the Dundee Stars in England in 2016-17. While with the Stars, Sides recorded 35 points (11g-24a) in 43 games while serving as the team's captain.

The Sun Valley, Idaho native has received one call-up to the AHL during his professional career, a six-game stint with the St. John’s IceCaps in the 2012-13 season. He tallied two assists in his stint in the American Hockey League.

Sides broke into professional hockey in the 2009-10 season when he signed on with the Central Hockey League's Arizona Sundogs, the club with which he spent his first two seasons. Over his career, Sides has run up 142 points (62g-80a) and 257 penalty minutes with a +20 rating in 221 ECHL games.
