Scott Pooley's second goal of the game 16:01 into overtime gave the Newfoundland Growlers a 2-1 win over the Toledo Walleye in Game 2 of the 2019 Kelly Cup Finals presented by SmileDirectClub in front of 5.689 fans at Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland. The Growlers lead the best-of-seven series 2 games to 0.
It is just the second time in the 31-year history of the ECHL that the first two games of the Final series have gone to overtime, joining the 1994 Riley Cup Finals, when the Toledo Storm defeated Raleigh in each of the first two games on their way to a 4 games to 1 series victory.
Toledo got on the scoreboard first 3:34 into the second period when Shane Berschbach notched his seventh goal of the playoffs off assists from A.J. Jenks and Dylan Sadowy.
Pooley pulled Newfoundland even with a power-play goal 2:45 into the second period as he snapped a shot over the shoulder of Toledo goaltender Pat Nagle from the left-wing circle.
Michael Garteig earned the win for the Growlers with 22 saves while Nagle stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced.
The series shifts to Toledo for Game 3 of the series on Wednesday at 7:35 p.m. ET. Catch all of the action LIVE on ECHL.TV.
