Tschantz returns to Mariners

PORTLAND, Maine –The Maine Mariners have re-signed forward Dwyer Tschantz to a contract for the 2019-20 season.

The Mariners are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Rangers and the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack.

A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Tschantz was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the seventh round (202nd overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. In his final season of junior hockey with the United States Hockey League’s Indiana Ice in 2013-14, Tschantz helped his team capture a Clark Cup championship, as he posted 44 points (24g-20a) in 52 regular-season games. He went on to play collegiately at Cornell University, before signing with the Worcester Railers at the end of the 2017-18 season. In four games for Worcester, Tschantz scored one goal – the first of his professional career - on April 7, 2018 at Manchester.

Tschantz has ties to the Mariners organization dating back to early days of juniors. From 2011-13, he was involved in the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers 16U and Team Comcast 18U programs. The Mariners are owned by Comcast Spectacor. During Tschantz’s time in Philadelphia, Mariners VP of Operations, Danny Briere, was playing for the Flyers, and became one of Dwyer’s idols.

Tschantz was named the team’s “Most Improved Player” for the 2018-19 season. He totaled 16 points (9g-7a) in 50 games for the Mariners last season, and posted 14 points (7g-7a) in his final 26 games of the season.
