Rookie Gerard joins Steelheads

BOISE, Idaho –The Idaho Steelheads have agreed to terms with rookie forward Freddy Gerardfor the 2019-20 season.

The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars and the American Hockey League's Texas Stars.

Gerard, 25, closed his collegiate career with Ohio State University during the 2018-19 season, posting 20 points (7g-13a) in 36 games, helping the team to its first Big Ten championship. The Rocky River, Ohio native recorded consecutive 20-point seasons in his final two years and tallied 58 points (23g-35a) through 118 games in his four-year collegiate career. He also aided the team to their second Frozen Four appearance in school history in 2018.

Prior to his collegiate career, Gerard appeared in 60 games with the Madison Capitols of the United States Hockey League, boasting 36 points (18g-18a) in the 2014-15 season while serving as an alternate captain.
