ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland – The Newfoundland Growlers, ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced that the club has signed defenseman Miles Gendron to a contract for the 2020-21 ECHL season.
Gendron will be playing in his second professional season. In 2019-20, his first full season in the professional ranks, he appeared in 32 ECHL contests with Brampton, Reading and Newfoundland and scored 15 points (4g-11a). He also played in one game for the American Hockey League’s Belleville Senators.
The 24-year-old appeared in the last seven contests of the season with Newfoundland and tallied six points (2g-4a) to accompany his +7 rating.
Prior to turning pro, Gendron played four years at the University of Connecticut, where he served as captain in his senior year in 2018-19. In 126 college contests from 2015-19, Gendron recorded 33 points (10g-23a) with 82 penalty minutes.
The 70th overall selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Gendron played one year of junior in the British Columbia Hockey League before attending college and captured the league title with the Penticton Vees in 2014-15.
