Luukkonen makes NHL debut

Former Cincinnati Cyclones' goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen became the 695th former ECHL player to reach the National Hockey League when he debuted with the Buffalo Sabres against Boston on Friday.

Luukkonen is the 17th former ECHL player to make his NHL debut during the 2020-21 season. He appeared in 23 games for the Cyclones in 2019-20, posting a record of 12-7-3 with three shutouts, a 2.24 goals-against average and a save percentage of .912. Luukkonen participated in the 2020 ECHL All-Star Classic in Wichita, and is the 69th former ECHL All-Star to reach the National Hockey League.

Selected in the second round (54th overall) by the Sabres in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Luukkonen has gone 11-9-5 in 25 career appearaces with Rochester in the American Hockey League.
