PORTLAND, Maine – The Maine Mariners announced the signing of rookie defenseman Alex Sheehy for the 2023 24 season.

A native of North Salem, New York, Sheehy played at the University of New England for the past four seasons, joining the program in 2019. As he rose to captain, he enjoyed his best season in his senior campaign of 2022-23, scoring 17 points (3g-14a) in 24 games. He was also named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference’s First All-Conference Team.

Sheehy represented the United States at the 2023 Winter World University Games, an international collegiate tournament held every two years – this past year in Lake Placid, New York. He posted the best plus/minus rating of any player in the tournament, with a +14, as Team USA claimed the silver medal.

Prior to his college career, Sheehy spent time in the National Collegiate Development Conference with the Jersey Hitmen and Connecticut Jr. Rangers.
