Pair of Game 7s to decide final Division Finals matchups

The final two spots in the Division Finals round of the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be determined tonight when the Adirondack Thunder host the Maine Mariners and the Jacksonville Icemen entertain the Florida Everblades in the 53rd and 54th Game 7s in ECHL postseason history. The winner of the Adirondack/Maine game will meet Norfolk in the North Division Finals while the winner of the Jacksonville/Florida matchup will advance to the South Division Finals to take on Orlando.

Adirondack is playing in a Game 7 for the second time in its ECHL history. The Thunder fell to South Carolina 3-2 in double overtime in the 2016 Eastern Conference Semifinals in its only previous seventh game. Maine is playing in a Game 7 for the first time as the Mariners look to move on to the second round for the first time in its ECHL history. The Mariners are looking to become just the third team in ECHL postseason history (Newfoundland vs. Reading in 2022 North Division Finals and Wheeling vs. South Carolina in 2016 Eastern Conference Finals) to win Games 6 and 7 of a series on the road.

Jacksonville is playing in a Game 7 for the first time, while Florida is 1-3 all-time in ECHL Game 7s. The Everblades defeated Orlando in the 2017 South Division Semifinals while falling to Dayton in the 2007 American Conference Finals, Reading in the 2013 Eastern Conference Semifinals and Colorado in the 2018 Kelly Cup Finals.

The Everblades are the 18th team in ECHL postseason history to force a Game 7 after trailing a series 3 games to 1. Eight of the previous 17 teams to have forced a Game 7 in that situation won the series. Like Maine, Florida is also looking to become the third team in ECHL history to win Games 6 and 7 of a series on the road

The home team is 36-16 all-time in ECHL Game 7s and has won 23 of the last 32. Eleven Game 7s have gone beyond regulation, with four being decided in two overtimes and one in three overtimes. The home team has won eight of the 11 games decided in overtime.
