Lord named head coach for Ontario

Former ECHL player and coach Andrew Lord has been named the head coach of the American Hockey League's Ontario Reign.

The 40-year-old was head coach of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits from 2020-24, leading the club to a record of 155-94-39 and earning the John Brophy Award as the league’s Coach of the Year in 2023-24. He also earned the honor of coaching in the 2024 ECHL All-Star Classic in Savannah.

Last season, Lord was head coach for Halifax of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. The Mooseheads went 19-35-10 before becoming the first 16-seed in league history to win a playoff series.

Prior to joining Greenville in advance of the 2020-21 season, Lord led the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Ice Hockey League to nine separate titles, including three Conference championships, two Challenge Cup championships, two League titles, and two Playoff championships. As the winningest coach in Devils history, he led the team to a 221-75-22 record across his six seasons as head coach.

During his playing career, Lord recorded 104 points (42g-62a) in 165 with Wheeling from 2008-11.

Lord becomes the 10th active AHL head coach to have spent time coaching in the ECHL.
