Stingrays agree to terms with Luypen

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals and American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears, have announced that forward Jalen Luypen has agreed to terms for the 2025-26 season.

Luypen brings two years of experience in the AHL to the Stingrays. Drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, Luypen broke into professional hockey with the Rockford IceHogs in the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs and spent most of the last two seasons with Rockford.

The 23-year-old has tallied 36 points (12g-24a) in 132 games with the IceHogs. In 2023-24, In addition to his time with Rockford, he recorded three points (1g-2a) in five ECHL games with Indy last season.

Prior to turning pro, Luypen spent five years in the Western Hockey League, recording 136 points (66g-70a) in 222 games with the Edmonton Oil Kings. He was part of the Oil King's 2022 WHL championship squad and played in the Memorial Cup that year. Luypen was then acquired by the Tri-City Americans for the 2022-23 season, where he added 42 points (20g-22a) in 41 games.
