Barry Almeida of the Utah Grizzlies is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Jan. 11-17. It is the second time this season that he has received the weekly honor.Almeida scored six goals, added two assists and was a +6 in three games last week.The 27-year-old had his second four-goal game of the season in a 5-2 win against Tulsa on Wednesday, tallied two goals and added an assist in a 7-3 victory over Wichita on Friday and recorded an assist in a 3-2 win against the Thunder on Saturday.A native of Ludlow, Mass., Almeida has 28 points (17g-11a) in 32 games with the Grizzlies this season. His 17 goals are tied for third in the ECHL.Almeida has 118 points (55g-63a) in 161 career ECHL games with Utah, Cincinnati and Reading. He captured a Kelly Cup title with the Royals in 2013. He has added 15 points (7g-8a) in 36 career games with Hershey of the American Hockey League.Prior to turning pro, Almeida recorded 92 points (45g-47a) in 159 career games at Boston College and was part of the Eagles’ National Championship teams in 2010 and 2012. On behalf of Barry Almeida, a case of pucks will be donated to a Utah youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL.
