2015-16 CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week Q&AAlain Valiquette – February 29-March 6
ECHL: Congratulations on winning the CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week! It’s been a busy few weeks for you…..first pro start, first pro win…traded… great debut with your new team…winning this weekly award. How would you describe the last few weeks?Alain Valiquette: It has been a bit of a rollercoaster for sure, with a lot of “firsts,” but I have enjoyed every minute so far and I’m having a lot of fun. ECHL: Greenville is the second pro team you’ve been with in a short amount of time. How has it been getting to know a whole new set of teammates? AV: It’s been great. The guys on the team are awesome and everyone in the organization has been very welcoming. They’ve been making my job easier on and off the ice and I’m thankful for that. ECHL: Amidst the trade and the busy last couple weeks, how do you stay focused on your game so that your play continues to be at a high level? AV: I try to leave everything that can be distracting outside of the rink. Once I step onto the ice, my only focus is stopping the puck and getting better. ECHL: For the Swamp Rabbits fans who are just getting to know you – what do you think is most important for them to know about your style of play? AV: I try to be as technical and simple as possible and use my size to my advantage. ECHL: Looking back on your career to this point, what has been your proudest ‘hockey moment’ so far? AV: Getting drafted to my hometown OHL team, the Sudbury Wolves, was definitely a proud hockey moment for me. In addition, everything I’ve experienced since moving to the ECHL in the last few weeks is definitely something I can look back on and be proud of.
