Cody Wydo of the Wheeling Nailers is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 29-March 6.Wydo scored three goals, added two assists and was a +7 in two wins at Reading last week. The 24-year-old tallied his first career hat trick, including the game-winning goal, and was a +4 in a 7-4 victory on Friday and followed that up with a pair of assists in a 4-3 win on Saturday.A native of Southgate, Mich., Wydo has posted 35 points (17g-18a) in 43 games with the Nailers this season and is tied for 14th among ECHL rookies in scoring.Wydo appeared in nine games with Wheeling last season, recording six points. Prior to turning pro, he played four seasons at Robert Morris University where he tallied 150 points (85g-65a) in 151 career games. As a senior, Wydo served as the Colonials’ team captain and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award.On behalf of Cody Wydo, a case of pucks will be donated to a Wheeling youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL.
