ECHL Community Recap

ECHL teams are always giving back to their local communities. Here's a look at some recent events from select teams.

Adirondack – On April 16, the Thunder held a “Party on the Plaza” prior to Game 3 of the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Party was a great way to get the city engaged for the first playoff hockey game in the market in 10 years. The team had food, drinks, ice cream, outdoor games, a bounce house and the Kelly Cup on the Glen Falls Civic Center's Plaza for the fans. The Thunder also partnered with a local bar, O'Toole's Bar & Grill, to show all away playoff games for fans while doing giveaways and ticket sales at the bar with the presence of our mascot.

Indy – The 25th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Indianapolis took place on April 16. The event drew over 40,000 participants and spectators. Fuel mascot Nitro was on hand to assist with the festivities, greet attendees and take part in the day of fundraising!

Kalamazoo – On April 3, K-Wings mascot Slappy delivered a special K-Wings branded helmet to Abby, one of the victims of the tragic shootings in Kalamazoo earlier in the year. Abby has to wear this helmet at all times when she walks. The helmet designer for K-Wing goalie Joel Martin mocked up and produced this special helmet for Abby. Slappy was thrilled to deliver it to her at the hospital.

Orlando – On April 9, Shades and Solar Bears staff members were out at the Autism Walk and Family Fun day. The team representatives interacted with walkers and their families, all while helping to raise money for the Autism Society of Orlando and their mission.

Rapid City – On April 22 and 23, Rush mascot Nugget was at the Youth & Family Services Kids Fair, appearing at the booth for team sponsor Great Clips. Nugget interacted with kids and played hockey on the team’s kid shooter net, attending the event for two hours each day.

Reading – On April 17, Tiara and Royals office staff went to Reading’s City Park to help clean the park. Part of Youth service day, the Royals helped the youth of Reading clean the park to improve the wellbeing of both the city and its residents. Tiara helped support the cause by taking pictures and encouraging Reading’s youth to give back to their community.

Wichita – On April 4, the Thunder held an end of season party for Kids Club members to thank them for being young Thunder fans. The Thunder held it at All Star Sports West where the kids and players could participate in Go-Karts, Laser Tag and Mini Golf for two hours as well as enjoy some pizza, all courtesy of the Thunder. Parents of Kids Club Members were welcome to participate as well.
