Rookie Zion signs with Beast

BRAMPTON, Ontario - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens, announced that Mitch Zion, who made his professional debut with the Beast in March, will return to the team to play his first full season of professional hockey in 2016-17.

Zion, a native of Manotick, Ontario, appeared in nine games as a member of the Beast during the 2015-16 season and recorded five points (1g-4a). He picked up his first professional goal as a member of the Beast, a game-winner, in the club's 2-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals on April 8.

Prior to joining the Beast, Zion was among the leading scorers for Carleton University in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. He suited up for 28 CIS contests with the Ravens and scored 21 points (6g-15a).

In 72 career CIS games, Zion tallied 52 points (20g-32a) between the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons.
