WINDSOR, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles, ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced that they have re-signed defenseman Giffen Nyren for the 2016-17 season.
Nyren notched 21 points (5g-16a) in 38 contests with Colorado last season.
The Calgary, Alberta native has played as both a defenseman and as a forward during his career and spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Kamloops Blazers and Calgary Hitmen. Nyren posted 125 points (28g-97a) in 269 games at the major-junior level. He also captured a WHL championship with the Hitmen in 2010.
Nyren went on to register 45 points in 50 games with the University of Calgary and has saw action in 29 ECHL contests with the Utah Grizzlies, collecting 10 points and 57 penalty minutes during the 2010-11 season. Nyren has appeared in 15 AHL games, registering four points with the Abbotsford Heat in the 2010-11 campaign.
