ECHL Community Update

Missouri – On Aug. 6, Mavericks' captain, Andrew Courtney, and mascot Mac, joined corporate partner A&W Restaurants to promote National Root Beer Float Day. Fundraising dollars were donated to Make-a-Wish Missouri, as part of their continual effort to grant wishes for local children battling life threatening illnesses.

Norfolk – On Aug. 9, Denali Moose Tracks partnered with the local Salvation Army and Mayfield Dairy. The mission was to pass out 10,000 free scoops of ice cream. Each scoop they passed out contributed $1 to the Salvation Army of Hampton Roads Area Command to support community programs. To draw a little more attention to their stop in Norfolk, they had celebrity scoopers dishing out the sweet treats. Admirals' mascot Salty stopped in for an hour to pass out some free scoops to those in attendance and help raise money for a great cause. Follow the hashtag #10KScoops to see pictures of other stops they made around the country and learn more about their mission.

Toledo – More than 60 youth hockey players took part in this year’s Toledo Walleye Youth Hockey Camp, held August 8-12 at the Huntington Center.  Walleye players Evan Rankin, Michael Leone and Austin Wuthrich were on hand to lead the drills, and have fun during on-ice games such as ‘Sharks and Minnows.’ The youth players, ranging in age from 7-13, got to improve their skills and learn from their local hockey heroes. Each day the campers enjoyed three hours of on-ice and three hours of off-ice activities, which included dry land drills with Walleye Strength and Conditioning Coach Dan Jones.

Wichita – Pedalfest is Heartspring’s annual fundraiser – a bike ride benefitting Heartspring’s pediatric services and children with special needs. This year it took place on Aug. 20 and there were three different races, an after party with food & a beer garden, vendors and a DJ. The goal of the event was to raise $75,000 and the event surpassed that goal! The Thunder attended the event to promote the Heartspring/Thunder game on Oct. 15.  50% of ticket sales for the game goes back to Heartspring.
