West Valley City, Utah – Utah Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham announced that the team has re-signed defensemen Garrett Haar and Sam Windle for the 2017-18 season.
The Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League and the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League.
Haar was acquired by Utah as the ECHL’s trade deadline hit on March 9 and had five points (2g-3a) and a +4 with the Grizzlies to wrap up the regular season while adding two assists in five playoff games. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime on April 5 in the win that would eventually lock up Utah’s playoff spot. He’s played in 133 ECHL games and was drafted by the Washington Capitals in 2011.
Windle appeared in 20 games with Utah and had three assists and 37 penalty minutes after being acquired from Wheeling on Nov. 14. He sustained a season ending injury on Jan. 7 against Rapid City. He played four years of college hockey at Bemidji State University.
