Stenglein signs deal with K-Wings

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Wings, ECHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, have signed rookie forward J.T. Stenglein to a contract for the 2017-18 season.

Stenglein, 24, gears up for his first year of professional hockey following the conclusion of his four-year career at Michigan State University. In 87 career games with the Spartans, he tallied 30 points (14g-16a). His standout year came during his junior campaign, in which the native of Rochester, N.Y. earned 22 points (8g-14a) in 34 games played.

Though he suffered through an injury-shortened senior campaign, Stenglein was still able to leave his mark at Michigan State and was named three times as an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Before embarking on his career with the Spartans in 2013, Stenglein spent three seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Youngstown Phantoms (109 games played), Sioux City Muskateers (14 games played) and Waterloo Blackhawks (28 games played). Stenglein notched 109 points (56g-53a) over the course of 151 games played and showed his toughness by racking up 327 penalty minutes during his junior career.

Stenglein represented the United States of America in the 2012 World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He helped lead his team to the crown by scoring the game-winning goal during a 6-3 triumph over Canada West in the gold medal game.
