Oilers add to offense with signing of Sides

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Oilers, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s St. Louis Blues, announced the addition of veteran forward Joey Sides to the 2017-18 roster.

Sides, 31, returns to the ECHL after spending the 2016-17 season with the Dundee Stars of the Elite Ice Hockey League, where he served as captain. During his season in Scotland, Sides compiled 35 points (11g-24a) in 43 games for the Stars.

The Sun Valley, Idaho native last played in the ECHL in 2015-16, where he posted 28 points (11g-17a) in 64 games split between the Wichita Thunder and Reading Royals. He has also skated for the Rapid City Rush (2014-15) and Colorado Eagles (2011-13). Sides enjoyed his best ECHL season with the Eagles in 2012-13, when he tallied 40 points (21g-19a) in 44 games. That year, he also appeared in six games with the American Hockey League’s St. John’s IceCaps, where he had two assists.

Sides turned pro with the Central Hockey League’s Arizona Sundogs in 2009-10 after four college seasons–three as captain—at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. In 123 CHL games over two seasons for the Sundogs, Sides recorded 98 points (44g-54a) and 219 penalty minutes. He also played half of a season for the Friesland Flyers in the Netherlands in 2011-12.
