Walleye acquire, sign Brassard

Toledo, OH – The Toledo Walleye have acquired forward Austen Brassard from the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for future considerations, ans signed Brassard to a contract for the 2017-18 season.

The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate  of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.Brassard appeared in 39 games last year for the Grizzlies with 29 points (9g-20a) and 45 penalty minutes. He also skated in 20 AHL contests with San Diego, adding four points (2g-2a).

He spent his first three years in the AHL between St. John’s and Manitoba. He posted a career-best 15 goals and 21 assists over 75 games with Manitoba in the 2015-16 season. In total, the 24-year-old has skated in 199 AHL contests with 53 points (26g-37a) and 147 penalty minutes.

The Winsor, Ontario native was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the fifth round of the 2011 draft while he was playing with Belleville in the OHL. Brassard racked up 147 points (70G, 77A) over 256 games spanning four years in the OHL. His best season came in 2011-12 season when he collected nearly a point per game with 51 (27G, 24A) in 64 contests.
