Amlong inks deal with Mallards

MOLINE, Ill. – The Quad City Mallards have signed defenseman Greg Amlong for the 2017-18 season.

The Mallards are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Vegas Golden Knights and the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves.

Amlong spent most of last season with the Elmira Jackals after playing one game for the Wichita Thunder at the start of the campaign. The O’Fallon, Mo. native scored 17 points (3g-14a) in 59 total games.

The 25-year-old broke into professional hockey by playing five games - and picking up one assist - for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in the spring of 2016. He joined the Swamp Rabbits immediately after completing his senior season at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Amlong played for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell for two years before transferring to R.I.T. He notched 36 points (8g-28a) in 105 games for the two schools. In 2015-16, Amlong enjoyed a breakout senior year during which he set collegiate career highs in goals (7), assists (14) and points (21).

Amlong reached four straight NCAA Tournaments and was also a member of teams that won four successive conference tournaments. His two seasons at Lowell saw the River Hawks not only reach back-to-back NCAA Tournaments but also claim the first two Hockey East tournament crowns in school history. In addition, during his freshman year, Lowell went all the way to the Frozen Four after also winning its first Hockey East regular season championship. Success followed Amlong to R.I.T., where in 2015 and 2016 the first consecutive Atlantic Hockey tournament triumphs in that program’s history propelled the Tigers to what were also their first ever back-to-back NCAA Division I tournament appearances.

Before making the step up to college hockey, Amlong played two seasons in the junior ranks for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League. In 2010-11 he helped the RoughRiders finish first overall in the USHL.
