MOLINE, Ill. – The Quad City Mallards have signed forwards Alex Globke and Brayden Low for the 2017-18 season.
The Mallards are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Vegas Golden Knights and the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves.
Globke scored 17 points (5g-12a) in 29 games as a rookie with the Toledo Walleye last season. The 23-year-old turned professional last year after spending three seasons at Lake Superior State University. The Waterford, Mich. native produced 49 points (21g-28a) in 100 career collegiate games. He was named a Western Collegiate Hockey Association Scholar Athlete in both 2014-15 and 2015-16 and was also honored as Lake Superior State’s Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2014-15. Globke was named to the 2013-14 WCHA All-Rookie team after he not only led the Lakers in points (31) but also finished first among all WCHA rookies in goals (12), assists (19) and points.
Before heading to LSSU, Globke played two seasons in the junior ranks with the Port Huron Fighting Falcons of the North American Hockey League and the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League. In 2011-12, he helped Port Huron to a division title and berth in the NAHL’s Roberston Cup national championship tournament.
Low, 23, is also approaching the start of his second season. Last year, the product of Richmond, British Columbia scored seven points (3g-4a) in 42 games with the Rapid City Rush. Low broke into pro hockey after one season at the University of Alberta, where he tallied three points (1g-2a) in 21 games in 2015-16.
He skated in the Western Hockey League for all or part of five seasons prior to joining the Golden Bears. Low served as an alternate captain while completing his junior career by notching 32 points (16g-16a) in 70 games with the Everett Silvertips in 2014-15. He played in Everett for three seasons after joining the Portland Winterhawks for brief stints in both 2010-11 and 2011-12. Low totaled 58 points (26g-32a) in 187 career WHL games.
