Reading, Pa. – The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward K.J. Tiefenwerth.
Tiefenwerth, who hails from Bellmore, N.Y., will be entering his first season of professional play. Last year, he registered 18 points (3g-15a) and 20 penalty minutes in his senior season at Quinnipiac University. A four-time selection to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team, Tiefenwerth was an integral member of the 2016 Bobcats team that won the ECAC playoff championship and advanced all the way to the NCAA National Championship Game before getting knocked off in the finals by the University of North Dakota.
Tiefenwerth began his collegiate career at UMass-Amherst where he was chosen as the Hockey East Rookie of the Week in December of 2012 before transferring to Quinnipiac where he completed his three remaining seasons of collegiate eligibility. In 132 total college games, Tiefenwerth registered 49 points (12g-37a) and 46 penalty minutes.
