Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and AHL's Bakersfield Condors, announced the signing of defenseman Travis Brown.
Brown, 23, begins his third year as a pro after spending the majority of last season with the Allen Americans. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, he was signed last year by the American Hockey League's San Jose Barracuda. After being sent to Allen, he registered 14 points (3g-11a) in 36 regular-season games and added two goals in 11 playoff games.
A fifth-round (149th overall) selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Brown turned pro in 2015-16 when he signed a one year, two-way agreement with the St. John's IceCaps. He played most the season with the Brampton Beast, collecting 22 points (8g-14a) in 55 games. He also appeared in three games for the IceCaps, adding one goal.
Prior to turning pro, Brown played five seasons in the Western Hockey League for the Moose Jaw Warriors and Victoria Royals. His best year came in 2014-15 when he piled up 57 points (18g-39a) in 71 games. Overall, he finished with 181 points (48g-133a) in 281 career games in the WHL. Brown was also a participant in the Montreal Canadians NHL rookie tournament before the start of the 2015-16 season.
