Toledo, OH – Forward Kyle Bonis has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2017-18 season.
The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Over the past three years with the Walleye, Bonis has tallied 95 points (56g-39a) over 106 games played. Despite playing in only nine games last year for the Walleye, the Lindsay, Ontario native picked up 11 points (6g-5a) including being named ECHL Player of the Week with 5 points (3g-2a) in the first week of the season. After that, he was loaned to the AHL's Rochester Americans where he added 12 points (10g-2a) in 52 games.
Appearing in 17 playoff contests this past season, Bonis continued his point-per-game performance with 18 points (10g-8a). His 18 points were tied for the team lead during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. In total, the 28-year-old has scored 140 points (81g-59a) in 171 career ECHL games. He has also skated in 96 career AHL games with 24 points (15g-9a).
In four years at Ferris State (2009-13), Bonis picked up 77 points (47g-30a) over 136 total games played. As a senior in 2012-13, he scored 19 goals, was Second Team for the Senior CLASS Award and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He helped the Bulldogs win a CCHA regular-season championship in the 2011-12 season with a college high 31 points (19g-12a).
