Toledo, Ohio – Forward Christian Hilbrich has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2017-18 season.
The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Hilbrich spent his first professional season with the Wheeling Nailers where he finished fifth on the team with 45 points (16g-29a) while adding 48 penalty minutes. The Port Credit, Ontario native also appeared in six AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The 25-year-old took home the ECHL Player of the Week honors for Jan. 9-15 with nine points (5g-4a) over four games, which included his first professional hat trick on Jan. 15 at Kalamazoo.
Prior to turning pro, he spent four years at Cornell University where he recorded 48 points (27g-21a) in 111 career games. Hilbrich was a captain during his senior season (2015-16) while also being named to the Second Team All-American for the Senior CLASS Award. He was a pillar of consistency at Cornell picking up 14 points in each of his last three years.
