Veteran forward Marquardt joins Admirals

Veteran forward Marquardt joins Admirals

NORFOLK, Va. —  The Norfolk Admirals announced they have signed veteran forward Matt Marquardt to a contract for the 2020-21 season.

Marquardt, 33, makes his return to the United States after spending the last two years with the Dundee Stars of the Elite Ice Hockey League. He made his presence known quickly in Dundee as he registered 46 points in 59 games in 2018-19. Last season, he was named team captain and player/assistant coach, putting in 44 points in 48 games.

The North Bay, Ontario product last played in the United States in 2015-16 with the Florida Everblades, where he was captain and ranked third on the team with 45 points (15g-30a). Marquardt has played in 244 career ECHL games with Florida, Bakersfield, Stockton and Reading, including a Kelly Cup championship in 2011-12 when he tallied 18 points (6g-12a) in 18 postseason contests.

In addition to his experience in the ECHL, Marquardt has suited up in 268 career American Hockey League games with 65 points. He was selected in the seventh round (194th overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2006 NHL Draft.
