The final spot in the Division Finals round of the 2022 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be determined tonight when the Utah Grizzlies host the Tulsa Oilers in the 50th Game 7 in ECHL postseason history. The winner of tonight's game advances to meet the Rapid City Rush in the Mountain Division Finals.
Tonight marks Utah's first-ever Game 7 in an ECHL postseason series. Tulsa is playing in a Game 7 for the third time, having gone 1-1 in Game 7 situations during the 2019 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Oilers defeated Kansas City 6-2 in the Mountain Division Semifinals before falling to Toledo 6-2 in the Western Conference Finals. Tulsa is looking to join Wheeling, who defeated South Carolina in the 2016 Eastern Conference Finals, as the only teams in ECHL postseason history to win Games 6 and 7 of a best-of-seven series on the road.
The home team is 34-15 all-time in ECHL Game 7s and has won 21 of the last 29. Eleven Game 7s have gone beyond regulation, with four being decided in two overtimes and one in three overtimes. The home team has won eight of the 11 games decided in overtime.
