Cossa makes NHL debut

Former Toledo Walleye goaltender Sebastian Cossa became the 754th former ECHL player to reach the National Hockey League when he debuted with the Detroit Red Wings on Monday at Buffalo. Cossa made 12 saves in relief to earn the win in Detroit's 6-5 shootout victory.

Cossa is the second former ECHL player to make his NHL debut during the 2024-25 season. He appeared in 46 games for the Walleye in 2022-23, going 26-16-4 in 46 appearances and finishing finishing tied for third in the ECHL with a 2.56 goals-against average and tied for 10th with a .913 save percentage.

He also represented Toledo at the 2023 Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic in Norfolk, becoming the 73rd player from the ECHL All-Star Game to advance to the NHL and the 57th since 2002.

Selected by the Red Wings in the first round (15th overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Cossa has also seen action in 57 career American Hockey League games for Grand Rapids where he has gone 32-14-10 with three shutouts, a 2.49 goals-against average and a save percentage of .911.
