Ellis makes NHL debut

Ellis makes NHL debut

Former Worcester Railers, Tulsa Oilers and Orlando Solar Bears goaltender Colten Ellis became the 770th former ECHL player to reach the National Hockey League when he debuted with the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday against Detroit.

Ellis is the second former ECHL player to make his NHL debut during the 2025-26 season. He appeared in 82 career ECHL games from 2021-24 posting an overall record of 39-27-12 with two shutouts, a 3.11 goals-against average and a save percentage of .904. 

A third round selection (93rd overall) by the St. Louis Blues in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Ellis has seen action in 64 career games with Springfield of the American Hockey League where he is 30-26-5 with three shutouts, a 2.82 goals-against average and a save percentage of .919.
