MOLINE, Ill. – The Quad City Mallards have re-signed forward Sam Warning for the 2016-17 season.
The Mallards are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild and the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild.
Warning scored 31 points (16g-15a) in 65 games as a rookie last season. The 23-year-old turned professional after four seasons at the University of Minnesota. The Chesterfield, Mo. native recorded 97 points (40g-57a) in 146 career collegiate games.
In 2014-15, Warning completed his college career by tallying 24 points (12g-12a) in 39 games. Warning earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention after producing 34 points (14g-20a) in 39 games in 2013-14. He was also named to the 2014 NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team after helping Minnesota to the Frozen Four for the second time in three seasons. Warning and the Gophers claimed conference regular-season titles and NCAA tournament bids each of his first three collegiate seasons. Warning was also named to conference all-academic teams each of his final three seasons at Minnesota.
Warning arrived at Minnesota after spending two junior seasons with the United States Hockey League’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Warning recorded 43 points (24g-19a) in 56 games as the RoughRiders finished first overall in the USHL in 2010-11.
