Alumni Q&A: Louis Domingue

Alumni Q&A: Louis Domingue

Louis Domingue is a goaltender with the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League, having appeared in 31 games during the 2016-17 season, and 77 total NHL games in his career.  Prior to his NHL debut, he spent time in the ECHL with the Gwinnett Gladiators, now the Atlanta Gladiators. Domingue played 43 regular season games with the Gladiators and 10 during the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs.  In this exclusive Q&A, he shares his experience as a competitor for the Kelly Cup.

ECHL: What kind of emotions do you remember having when it came to playing in the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Gwinnett Gladiators?  How did you manage them?

Louis Domingue:  I was really anxious to get going. I knew we had a great team that could have gone all the way so I felt confident about that.

ECHL: How would you describe your team that year?  What was the group in the locker room like?

LD: Very tight group of guys. It's still to this day one of the most fun years I’ve ever had. We were well coached and a very determined group of guys.

ECHL: It was your first season playing professional hockey and you made it to the playoffs - was 'playoff hockey' everything that you expected?

LD: I was lucky enough to have played on good teams in junior hockey where we went pretty deep on playoff runs so in a sense, it was exactly what I was expecting.

ECHL: What was the most surprising/unexpected thing about playing in the Kelly Cup Playoffs?

LD: How hard it is to win it. There are so many good teams.

ECHL: What advice would you give to any of the players playing in the Kelly Cup Playoffs?

LD: Live in the moment and enjoy the ride because it's not easy to even get into the playoffs.

ECHL: More specifically, what advice would you give to the goaltenders currently in the KCP?

LD: Make sure you don’t have any outside distractions.

ECHL: What was the biggest lesson you learned from your time playing in the Kelly Cup Playoffs?

LD: I learned to not get too emotionally involved in a loss, especially in overtime. It’s important to just bounce back the next day.
