The Colorado Eagles advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in club history on Tuesday with a 4-3 win over the Allen Americans in Game 6 of the Mountain Division Finals.
Colorado will meet Toledo, a 4 games to 1 winner over Fort Wayne in the Central Division Finals, in the Western Conference Finals.
The Eagles' win ends the Americans' back-to-back reign as Kelly Cup champions.
Trailing 3-2 entering the final period, Colorado pulled even on Mason Geertsen's first goal of the postseason 35 seconds into the third period. In the closing moments, Matt Register unleashed a slapshot from the high slot with 1:09 remaining in regulation to give the Eagles the win.
Alex Belzile led Colorado in the series with five goals and eight points. Lukas Hafner went 3-2 with a 2.41 goal-against average in five games during the series, while Kent Simpson earned the win on Tuesday in the clinching game. Allen was led by Chad Costello's six points (3g-3a).
