The ECHL announced on Tuesday that Cole Libby of the Utah Grizzlies is the 2016-17 recipient of the ECHL Athletic Trainer of the Year Award, presented by CCM Hockey.
The winner is determined in a vote of the league’s equipment managers and athletic trainers. CCM Hockey recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of ECHL athletic trainers and will award Libby a CCM gift card in honor of his achievement.
Libby was named the Grizzlies’ head athletic trainer prior to the start of the 2016-17 season after holding the same position with the Wichita Thunder the previous two seasons. He started his professional career with the SPHL’s Louisiana Ice Gators from 2012-14. He served as an intern for the Grizzlies’ athletic trainer during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. In addition to his duties as the Grizzlies’ trainer during the 2016-17 season, he also served as the team’s equipment manager for the final six weeks of the season. A native of Scarborough, Maine, Libby graduated from Weber State University in 2012 with a degree in Athletic Training.
