The Toledo Walleye advanced to the 2017 Western Conference Finals on Saturday with a 5-0 win over Fort Wayne in Game 5 of the Central Division Finals.
It is Toledo's second trip to the Conference Finals in the past three seasons. The Walleye fell to South Carolina 4 games to 3 in the 2015 Eastern Conference Finals.
The Walleye will meet the winner of the Mountain Division Finals between Colorado and Allen in the Western Conference Finals. The Eagles lead that series 3 games to 1 and host Game 5 of the series on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. MT.
Simon Denis scored a pair of goals in the win for Toledo while Tyson Spink and Tylor Spink each had a goal and an assist. Jeff Lerg stopped all 24 shots he faced to record the win in goal.
A.J. Jenks led the Walleye in the series with four goals while sharing the team lead in points with Tyson Spink (2g-2a). Lerg went 4-1 with a 1.99 goals-against average and a save percentage of .936. Trevor Cheek led Fort Wayne with four points (1g-3a) while Gabriel Desjardins scored a team-best three goals.
