ECHL Plus Performer Chouinard re-signs with Americans

Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced that the team has signed defenseman Joel Chouinard for the 2017-18 season.

Chouinard joined the Americans as a free agent in 2016-17, after spending the previous two years with Toledo. In 72 games last year with Allen, he had 44 points (10g-34a).

In seven professional seasons, he has 204 games of service in the American Hockey League, with several teams, the majority with the former Lake Erie Monsters, where he played in 98 games.

Chouinard had his best offensive season as a pro with Allen last year, as well as being named the ECHL Plus Performer of the Year, finishing with a league-best +47.

The native of Sherbrooke, Quebec now makes his home in the Dallas area. He was a sixth-round selection (167th overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
