Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans announced that the club has re-signed the 2016-17 ECHL Goaltender of the Year, Riley Gill for the 2017-18 season.
The Americans are the ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League and the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League.
Gill is back for a fourth season between the pipes with the Americans, winning two Kelly Cup titles in his three seasons in North Texas. He is the team's all-time leader in wins with 78, including two 30-plus win seasons.
The 32-year-old finished with the best save percentage in the ECHL last season at .935 and second overall in the league in both wins (32) and goals-against average (2.22). He is a former Kelly Cup Playoffs MVP with Reading back in the 2014 playoffs.
Gill enters the 2017-18 season eighth in ECHL history with 145 career wins, and third with 21 shutouts, just four behind the all-time leader, Marc Magliarditi. He is the all-time leader in ECHL postseason history in games played (90), minutes played (5,095) and wins (53).
The native of Northfield, Minn. played his college hockey at Western Michigan University, where he was a teammate of former Allen defenseman, Tyler Ludwig. He played his junior hockey in the state of Texas with the former Texarkana Bandits of the North American Hockey League.
