Reading, Pa. – The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, announced that the team has agreed to terms with forwards Michael Huntebrinker and Matt Salhany for the 2017-18 season.
Huntebrinker, who hails from Chesterfield, Mo., joined the Royals late last season after the completion of his senior season at Minnesota State University-Mankato. In eight regular-season games with Reading, Huntebrinker recorded three assists and five penalty minutes. He also played in two postseason games in the Royals’ North Division Semifinals matchup against the Brampton Beast, picking up a pair of penalty minutes.
Prior to joining the Royals last year, Huntebrinker registered 22 points (4g-18a) and 12 penalty minutes in 39 games at MSU-Mankato. A three-time member of the WCHA All-Academic Team, Huntebrinker recorded 53 points (15g-38a) and 52 penalty minutes in 124 total collegiate games for the Mavericks.
Salhany, who is from Warwick, R.I., also joined Reading after the completion of his senior season—for him at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. In three regular-season games with the Royals, Salhany scored one goal—his first as a pro, which proved to be the game winner in a 4-1 win for the Royals over the Elmira Jackals on March 11.
Prior to arriving in Reading, Salhany recorded 13 points (6g-7a) and 10 penalty minutes in 34 games at Alabama-Huntsville. Salhany, who was selected as the team’s Freshman of the Year in his first year at UAH, picked up a total of 43 points (17g-26a) and 41 penalty minutes in 137 total games with the Chargers.
