Portland to hold "Name the Team" Contest

Portland, Maine. -Comcast Spectacor, the parent company of Spectra and the Philadelphia Flyers, today launched a “Name the Team” contest for the new Portland ECHL franchise that begins play at the Cross Insurance Arena in the fall of 2018. The announcement was made earlier this morning during a press conference at the Cross Insurance Arena.

Comcast Spectacor is encouraging interested participants to submit their favorite team name by visiting the team’s website, www.PortlandMaineHockey.com. Entries must be received by Monday, August 14. Comcast Spectacor will post the top five choices onThursday, August 17, and encourage website visitors to vote on their favorite.

“We are looking for a team name that connects the team to the area and with the fans; one that best represents Portland, Cumberland County, Southern Maine, and the competitive nature of this region,” said Danny Briere, Vice President, Hockey Operations, Portland Hockey. “This is Portland’s team, and we want Portland to name this team.”

The winning submission will receive four season tickets to the inaugural season, a team-signed jersey and will participate in the ceremonial puck drop on Opening Night in October 2018. If the same team name is submitted multiple times, one of those entries will be randomly selected. The winners must be a resident of Maine, New Hampshire or Massachusetts and at least 18 years old.

The team also announced they would begin accepting deposits for season tickets on Friday, September 1. Check www.PortlandMaineHockey.com for all team information and news as well as @PortlandECHL on Twitter.
