Baldwin returns for third season with Steelheads

Boise, Idaho – Idaho Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced that the team has agreed to terms on a contract  with defenseman Corbin Baldwin, bringing the top-pair blue-liner back to Idaho for a third season.

The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars and the American Hockey League's Texas Stars.

Baldwin, 26, has had the responsibility of shutting down the opposition’s top talent for much of his two years in Boise. Through 144 regular season games, Baldwin has posted a +38 rating, the highest of any Steelheads player in that time, and currently the fourth-best rating of any Steelheads player in the ECHL era. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has also been on the top defense pairing for a Steelheads penalty killing unit that has ranked second in the league for each of his two seasons in Idaho.

Last season, Baldwin collected 13 points (2g-11a) and 130 penalty minutes in 72 games, while also appearing in all five of Idaho’s playoff games.

Baldwin has collected 33 points (5g-28a) while not missing a regular-season game in Idaho, playing in all 72 contests in each of his past two seasons and only missing six games due to injury during the 2016 playoffs. Baldwin is just the second player in Steelheads history, and the first since Dan Shermerhorn (2000-02), to appear in every Steelheads game in consecutive seasons.

On Feb. 8, Baldwin played in his 300th professional game against the Wheeling Nailers.

Baldwin has played 324 professional games split between the Steelheads, Alaska Aces and Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL, the Houston Aeros and Iowa Wild in the AHL, and the Allen Americans and Quad City Mallards in the Central Hockey League. Baldwin has collected 58 points (9g-49a), 478 penalty minutes, and a +25 rating in his career.

Baldwin played 248 games of junior hockey from 2008-12, spending four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Spokane Chiefs and registering 66 points (11g-55a), 379 penalty minutes and a +57 rating.
