Martin Ouellette stopped all 24 shots he faced to lead the Florida Everblades to a 5-0 win over the Colorado Eagles in Game 5 of the 2018 Kelly Cup Finals on Saturday at Germain Arena. With the win, the Everblades take a 3 games to 2 lead in the best-of-seven series.
It was the first shutout in the Kelly Cup Finals since Alaska defeated Cincinnati 4-0 in Game 6 of the 2014 Finals.
Florida opened the scoring 11:41 into the first period when Michael Kirkpatrick fed Stephen MacAulay streaking down the slot, and he was able to slide a shot past Colorado goaltender Joe Cannata for his fifth goal of the postseason. The Everblades doubled their lead at 14:56 when Justin Kea poked a loose puck into the net for his fifth of the playoffs.
Michael Kirkpatrick extended the lead to 3-0 with a power-play goal at 7:39 of the second period snapping shot past Cannata from the left-wing circle.
The Everblades added two more goals in the final period with Steven Lorentz scoring at the 12:17 mark, one-timing a shot from the right-wing circle off a pass from Brett Bulmer and Zack Kamrass lighting the lamp at 15:24.
The series heads back to the Budweiser Events Center on Wednesday for Game 6. Face-off is set for 7:05 p.m. MT and all of the action is LIVE on ECHL.TV.
