Railers re-sign Panico

Worcester, Mass. – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club, ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced that the club has signed defenseman Tommy Panico to a contract for the 2018-19 season.

The 23-year-old Wall, New Jersey native returns to the Railers after making his professional debut with the team in the 2017-18 season, upon completion of his four-season career at UMass-Lowell. The defenseman appeared in nine regular-season games and five playoff games in his professional debut for the Railers. During the 2017-18 season, Panico received a call-up to the Iowa Wild of the AHL, in which he appeared in one game.

Prior to joining the Railers, Panico spent four seasons playing at UMass-Lowell, where he skated in 31 games his senior year, collecting a career high 20 points (8g-12a). His 20 points were tied for eighth among defensemen in Hockey East, while his eight goals ranked second among conference blueliners. In his four seasons with the River Hawks, Panico played in 115 games and amassed 42 points (11g-31a).

Panico spent one season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League before joining the college ranks, posting 13 points (2g-11a) in 52 games.
