RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Rush, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Calgary Flames, announced the team has re-signed veteran forward Logan Nelson for the 2023-24 season.
Last season, Nelson recorded 57 points (21g-36a) in 65 games, ranking fifth on the team in goals most goals, second in assists and third in points.
A native of Rogers, Minnesota, Nelson, 29, enters his 10th season of professional hockey, and his fourth as a member of the Rush. Since returning to the team in the 2021-22 season, Nelson’s career has totaled 117 points (43-74a) in 121 games, while adding 14 points (8g-6a) in 11 games during the 2022 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Additionally, he made his American Hockey League debut in 2021-22 with the Tucson Roadrunners, appearing in five games.
As a member of the Rush for three seasons (2016-17, 2021-22, 2022-23), Nelson possesses career totals of 142 points (53g-89a) in 152 games with Rapid City. Almost the entirety of his career has been played in the ECHL, where he’s racked up 316 points (122g-194a) in 452 games with the Rush, Atlanta Gladiators, Indy Fuel, Fort Wayne Komets, Orlando Solar Bears, Norfolk Admirals, Wichita Thunder and Quad City Mallards. He also spent the 2020-21 season with the SPHL’s Birmingham Bulls, leading the league with 36 assists and 49 points, while garnering SPHL Second All-Star Team honors.
Prior to turning professional, Nelson skated three seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Victoria Royals, tallying 159 points (60g-99a) in 179 games. He also spent one season with the United States Hockey Leauge’s Des Moines Buccaneers, posting nine points (6g-3a) in 41 games. Nelson was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifht round (133rd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
