Johnstone makes NHL debut

Johnstone makes NHL debut

Former South Carolina Stingrays and Newfoundland Growlers forward Marc Johnstone became the 744th former ECHL player to reach the National Hockey League when he debuted with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday at Florida. 

Johnstone is the fourth former ECHL player to make his NHL debut during the 2023-24 season. He made his pro debut with the Stingrays during the 2020-21 season, posting two assists in five games. Johnstone tallied 21 points (7g-14a) in 58 regular-season games with the Growlers in 2021-22 before adding eight points (4g-4a) in 19 contests during the 2022 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

A native of Cranford, New Jersey, Johnstone has recorded 27 points (11g-16a) in 94 career games in the American Hockey League with Toronto and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
