Komets force Game 6 with 4-1 win

The Fort Wayne Komets staved off elimination in the Western Conference Finals on Sunday with a 3-1 win over the Kansas City Mavericks in Game 5. Kansas City leads the series 3 games to 2, with Game 6 set for Tuesday in Kansas City.

Alex Aleardi and Jalen Smereck got the Komets off to a quick start with first-period goals, and Matt Copponi extended the lead to 3-0 at 2:40 of the second period.

Landon McCallum got Kansas City on the board with a power-play tally 15:24 into the middle frame, but Copponi’s second goal of the game restored Fort Wayne’s three-goal advantage at 11:43 of the third period.
