K-Wings re-sign Kattelus and Vasaturo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Wings, ECHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, have re-signed veteran center Eric Kattelus and second-year defenseman Charlie Vasaturo to ECHL contracts for the 2016-17 season.

Kattelus, 29, gears up for his sixth full season of pro hockey, having played all but 25 of his career ECHL games with the Wings. In 35 contests last year, the native of Traverse City, Mich. tallied 22 points (5g-17a) and 39 penalty minutes.

Before his professional debut with the Cincinnati Cyclones in February 2011, Kattelus appeared in 87 games over four years at Michigan Tech, where he registered 32 points (6g-26a). Kattelus has skated in 284 career professional hockey games, with 45 coming in the American Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves.

Vasaturo, 25, made his professional debut with Kalamazoo in October 2015, and appeared in 37 games over the course of the 2015-16 season with the Wings. Hailing from Sewell, N.J., the second-year defenseman scored 11 points (4g-7a) from the Kalamazoo blue line during his rookie campaign.

Before turning pro, Vasaturo spent four years at Union College, where he won three consecutive (2012-14) ECAC league titles and the 2014 NCAA National Championship. He served as team captain for the Dutchmen during his senior season.
