INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Forward Justin Breton and defensemen Troy Donnay and Tyler Palmer have signed with the Kansas City Mavericks for the 2017-18 season.
The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames and the American Hockey League's Stockton Heat.
Breton, 28, was acquired by the Mavericks at the trade deadline last season in a future considerations trade with Kalamazoo. In 12 games with Kansas City, the forward contributed three assists. Prior to joining the Mavericks, he played in 33 games for the Alaska Aces and in 14 games for the Kalamazoo Wings in the 2016-17 season. He finished the year with 21 points (9g-12a) in 59 games.
The Fitchburg, Mass. native had also played for Alaska in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns and made a stop with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL for two games in the 2015-16 season. Breton has 82 points (42g-40a) and 48 penalty minutes in 175 career ECHL games.
Donnay, 23, joins the Mavericks after spending the previous two seasons with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. In Greenville, Donnay totaled 28 points (5g-23a) and 130 penalty minutes in 122 games.
He signed an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers in July of 2013, prior to completing his fourth season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters. He played for Erie from 2011-15 and was an alternate captain on the 2012-13 and 2013-14 editions of the Otters that featured eventual top NHL Draft pick Connor McDavid. Prior to joining Erie, the Flint, Mich. native skated in two seasons with the London Knights, totaling four assists in 48 games.
Palmer, 23, comes to Kansas City after spending four years at MacEwan University from 2012-16. He missed 2016-17 due to injury. At MacEwan, he totaled 44 points (7g-37a) and 34 penalty minutes in 73 games.
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Palmer played one season for the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in 2012-13, registering four assists in 12 games.
